Sunday Pumpkin Patch Adventure

It was such a pretty day today! :)  We went to church this morning... then we went to the pumpkin patch!  Little late I know.  We have been so preoccupied with getting everything ready and in order with the wedding... We let October get away from us.  We went driving around looking for pumpkins and no one had any pumpkins!  :(  Then of course... "Evan saved Halloween" (those are Evan's words... hahaha)  He found a little pumpkin patch that was open and still selling pumpkins to last minute people like us!

Here is a picture of Evan craving his pumpkin and pretending to eat some raw pumpkin...

And here is the little green pumpkin that I picked out!!  Evan thinks it's weird.  But I like it.... Then Evan told me that it matches me... Because it's unique.

We hope everyone has a great Halloween tomorrow!! :)

Almost Halloween!

Halloween is right around the corner!  So crazy to Thanksgiving will be here in less than a month... And Christmas in less than two months!!  But anyway - We are so excited for the little kids all dressed up!  :)  We just found out on WECT that our trick or treating is Monday night... We are going to decorate our house this weekend.  My cousin Megan is going to bring over her little boy to go trick or treating in our neighborhood.  I will try to remember to take some pictures before it gets too dark to see.

Busy Weekend...

Goodness!  It is already Friday!  Wednesday was officially 7 months until our wedding.  I came home to the house after work and Evan had surprised me with take out from Olive Garden for our "official 7 months until we are Mr. & Mrs. Evan Hughes" - It was so sweet.  Now we are at 6 months and 4 weeks!  The time is flying by!  We are getting more and more exciting everyday!  <3  Last weekend my sister and my niece picked out their dresses.  This weekend I'm going with Stephanie to look at bridesmaid dresses.  This is the color we are doing...

I called and booked our hotel room for our wedding night this week as well!  And made sure that we could go on Sunday, after church, to look at the reception hall again.  We have to look at the chairs to make sure we get the correct chair linens. Oh, and Evan is getting out of the Marine Corps in 9 days! :)  We are both so excited to start this new chapter of our lives! <3

St Michael

This is Evan's new tattoo... It's just the outline.  He has to go back to get it shaded in and finished.  It's St. Michael and below it, it says, "Defend us in battle" in Latin.  It's on the left side of his back.  :)

Dress Shopping!!

We went to Maryland this weekend! :)  Evan hung out with my brother-in-law (his soon to be brother-in-law :) ), while the girls went shopping for bridesmaid dresses and a flower girl dress.  Heather found a dress she liked... Mikayla fell in love with her dress!  She was sooo cute!!  Then my mom tried on some Mother of the Bride dresses.  It was a lot of fun.  They all looked gorgeous!

Here is a couple of pictures of Mikayla after she tried on her dress... She was pretend to be a bride spinning around, looking at herself in the mirror.

Maryland Weekend! :)

We are leaving tomorrow to drive to Maryland after I get off work for my little cousin Gabrielle's First Birthday and for bridesmaid dress fittings!! :)  My sister wants to try on her dress before she gets too far along in her pregnancy... And my friend Danielle wants to try on dresses as well!  My little cousin Gabrielle is just too adorable and we really can't wait for her birthday party.  Oh and Evan is getting a weight bench/weight set from my Daddy... So we will be taking his truck up to Maryland.  First road trip in Evan's truck!! :)

The front of the "Will you be my Bridesmaid?" cards I sent to my girls... I sent a different card to my sister... And a different card to my beautiful, sweet niece!

Love Her!!

I love my niece soooo much!!  I could eat her up!! <3  She makes me smile.  I called my sister and my niece was talking in the background.  My sister said that her Aunt Kristina was on the phone... Mikayla said, "Oh, Aunt Kristina!  I love her!!"  She melts my heart.  I figured I would share one of the pictures of her with you...

Evan's Memorial Tattoo

Evan went to Port City Tattoo today and had them draw up a tattoo for him to go along with the dog tags that he already has on his chest.  He got a memorial dog tag for Mamou and a memorial dog tag for Doc Gonzales.  They are two guys that Evan was in the Marine Corp with.  Mamou passed away after he got out of the Marine Corp and Doc Gonzales passed away a year ago in Afghanistan.

Evan also is having them work up another tattoo for his back.  A St. Michael tattoo... He has this appointment on October 18th at 6:00pm... We will put up pictures and details then! :)

Marriage Prep!

Today we had our marriage prep course.  It was a very long day, but it was a good day.  It was very comforting for me and Evan.  Everything that was discussed in the class were topics that me and Evan had discussed in great detail already.  It was reassuring to know that we are prepared for our marriage and life together, not just our wedding day!  Also, we are very excited to have another thing accomplished on our list of things to do for the wedding.  <3  I will be emailing the church on Monday to see if we can meet with them November 18th.

Catholic Wedding

I found this article about a couple of differences between what our wedding ceremony (Catholic Wedding Ceremony) and your average wedding ceremony will be.  I thought it might be interesting to some... :)

We have our marriage prep class on Saturday.  We are really excited for our big day!  <3

Things You Won’t See At A Catholic Wedding
There are few events in life that are as steeped in tradition as a wedding. And the traditions surrounding weddings come to us through our families, our friends, our culture, and our religious traditions. But every religious tradition handles weddings differently, and some of the things that people expect to see and hear are often not part of the Catholic way of celebrating weddings.
For example, in some traditions, at the conclusion of the procession into the Church, the presiding minister may ask, “Who gives this woman to be married?” And the father of the bride will be expected to respond that he, or he and his wife, do. At Catholic weddings, it’s presumed that the bride—and the groom for that matter—give themselves to each other.
If you’ve ever seen a wedding on a television series, you’re probably familiar with the dramatic possibilities that arise when the minister asks, “If anyone knows any reason why these two should not be wed, let him speak now, or forever hold his peace.” Well, we Catholics don’t do that. In many places, notices of up-coming weddings are published, allowing anyone with objections to come forward before we get to the altar.
Another touching moment in most TV weddings is the phrase, “With this ring, I thee wed.” For us Catholics, the moment of the marriage is the exchange of consent, and the speaking of the vows. The ring is a symbol of the union that has already taken place. We bless wedding rings, and they are exchanged with the phrase, “Take this ring as a sign of my love and fidelity, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”
Another thing we don’t say at Catholic weddings is “I now pronounce you man and wife.” We believe that the couple becomes husband and wife not because the minister declares them to be such, but because they have given their consent and made their vows to each other. The function of the priest or deacon is to preside and witness these vows, not to make the marriage happen.
Through all of the ceremony, the emphasis is on what the bride and groom do, and not on anyone else. This celebration of love and unity mirrors the love of God for his people. Ideally, it inspires all of us to be more loving, more committed people.

Yay!! Our Big Day!!

Church time!

I took off early today so that way me and Evan could take the pups to church.  Our priest was blessing the animals at 3:30 in the soccer field at our church.  We absolutely adore Father Marco!  He is such an amazing priest!!  It was a great time.  The pups got to run around after their blessing and play with kids and other pups.  Here are some pictures of them after their blessings...
