Merry Christmas!!

Merry Christmas from Our house to Yours!!

We had a great Christmas.  We went to midnight mass (well, really it started at 11:00pm) last night.  It was a beautiful mass.  We got up this morning and opened gifts.  We received a lot of nice gifts from both of our parents.  We got clothes, books, movies, bathroom stuff, and gift cards! :)  The pups were also spoiled too... Evan got me an Amazon kindle fire! :) And I got Evan an AMP bed extender.  The rest of the day we spent enjoying each other's company.  It was a very calm and relaxing Christmas.  <3

Our new movie collection... :)  We are super excited!

Evan putting together Bentley's stairs... While Bentley patiently waits...

Evan unwrapping Kosar's bone and giving it to him...

Evan's bed extender!! :)

Our Christmas dinner... Cornish Game Hen, Mashed Potatoes, and Green Beans... :)

And of course... Mikayla opening the gifts that Aunt Kristina and Evan got her! <3  We asked for her to open them up on Christmas Eve so we could get pictures of her opening up just our gifts and so we could talk to her.  She got a 4 in one puzzle/memory Elmo game and an Elmo hoodie with her name on it.

We hope you had a blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year!!

One of Evan's first songs for me...

Apparently I'm going to spend my evening listening to songs on youtube.... But, here is another song that Evan "dedicated" to me... This one was when we first started talking... when he was trying to get me to start dating him... <3

Evan's song for me...

Me and Evan have a lot of special songs that mean a lot to us.  Below is one (of the many) that Evan has dedicated to me.  We were best friends for about a year before we started "officially" dating.  He worked really hard to get me as a girlfriend.  As an engaged couple, things are just perfect.  We are very excited for our future...

There are moments when Evan does things, says things, or just is himself, that I realize I'm over the moon happy that we get to be together for the rest of our lives.  Evan put this song on my facebook about a month ago.  Every time I hear it now, it just makes me smile.  I love my penguin!

Christmas Countdown

We have 5 days left until Christmas...  We are going to the Christmas Eve mass at 11:00pm... We are going to go about 30 minutes early for some of the Venetian Concert.  We are really excited to be able to go to mass at our church this year for Christmas.  We are going to miss our families, but we are excited to start our own traditions! :)  We are also excited for 2012!  We have less than 5 months until  our big day!

Christmas Lights...

We decided to go looking at Christmas lights tonight.  There are so many great ideas that people come up with.  It's so great to get out and see them all.  We found a house that the lights on the house light up to music.  They even had a screen that showed Christmas pictures.  It was amazing.  Below is a picture.  All of the house were really pretty.  It's so hard to believe Christmas will be here in 8 days!

Gingerbread House! :)

This morning I got up and went and tried on my dress.  It went great! :)  I go for alterations in February... We only have 5 months left!

Then I came home and me and Evan made our Gingerbread house!  It's always a lot of fun.  Below are some pictures of us building our Gingerbread house together.... And then the finished product!

Here is a picture of Evan putting the star on top of our little family tree! <3  And then the finished product!   Such a perfect evening!!  It's going to be a great Christmas!!

Ornaments! :)

Sooo... Evan had to run some errands today and while he was out he got some ornaments for our Christmas tree! :)  There wasn't a "Bentley" one... So we will have to check in with them in a couple of days when we get back to North Carolina to see if they have one yet... Evan definitely surprised me with our new ornaments!  He is so thoughtful!  They will look great on our tree in a couple of weeks!

We are heading up to Ohio around 5:00am tomorrow morning... Frankie will be babysitting our babies for us while we are gone.

Ceremony Music...

Today we met with the music director to pick out ceremony music... Our music director, Alex, is amazing!  He played us so many different songs on the piano.  It was so calming to spend the afternoon listening to Alex play and sometimes even sing us songs for our May ceremony.  He even played some of the hymns for us.  Evan is a big fan the the traditional Catholic ceremony music.  So all of our ceremony music fits us perfectly!  We are definitely excited about our picks!  We meet with the Priest on Monday.  <3

Here is a pretty neat video... my momma sent this to me...

Happy Veterans Day!!

‎"A veteran is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to, 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today, who no longer understand that fact."

‎"My heroes are those who risk their lives every day to protect our world and make it a better place--police, firefighters, and members of our ARMED FORCES."

Happy Veterans Day to all Veterans!!  But especially my Evan and my Grandpa!

Happy Birthday Marine Corps!!

Today is the Marine Corps Birthday!!  I am so thankful to all the Marines for everything they do for our country.  And I am so proud of my retired grunt for everything that he has done. <3  I came home from work today and made Evan his favorite meal... Stuffed shells.  :)  Such a great way to spend such a special day.

I can't believe it's already Sunday!  The weekend went by so fast again!  Friday afternoon we had a movie afternoon!  It was a rainy day... So it was great to be able to relax and curl up on the couch.  We have church today and should be relaxing the rest of the day...

In wedding news... My dress will be here in one month!!  Mikayla's flower girl dress just arrived!! :)  We will be meeting with the music director this Friday and the Priest next Monday.

All Saints Day

Busy day for us!!  It was Evan's second "real" day being out of the Marines.  He had to run around trying to get his benefits lined up and get everything ready for school.  He starts full time in January! :)  I had to work today... Then rush home for church at 6:00pm.

Today was also All Saints Day.  It was a holy day of obligation for us.  So we went to Mass.  It was a beautiful Mass today.  It's always refreshing to go to church during the week.  We also lit a candle at church for my Grandpa and Grandma Cathy Walker that passed away.  They are saints in my heart... They just haven't been named yet.  I love them dearly and think of them everyday.
I miss them more than they would have ever thought possible...

Sunday Pumpkin Patch Adventure

It was such a pretty day today! :)  We went to church this morning... then we went to the pumpkin patch!  Little late I know.  We have been so preoccupied with getting everything ready and in order with the wedding... We let October get away from us.  We went driving around looking for pumpkins and no one had any pumpkins!  :(  Then of course... "Evan saved Halloween" (those are Evan's words... hahaha)  He found a little pumpkin patch that was open and still selling pumpkins to last minute people like us!

Here is a picture of Evan craving his pumpkin and pretending to eat some raw pumpkin...

And here is the little green pumpkin that I picked out!!  Evan thinks it's weird.  But I like it.... Then Evan told me that it matches me... Because it's unique.

We hope everyone has a great Halloween tomorrow!! :)

Almost Halloween!

Halloween is right around the corner!  So crazy to Thanksgiving will be here in less than a month... And Christmas in less than two months!!  But anyway - We are so excited for the little kids all dressed up!  :)  We just found out on WECT that our trick or treating is Monday night... We are going to decorate our house this weekend.  My cousin Megan is going to bring over her little boy to go trick or treating in our neighborhood.  I will try to remember to take some pictures before it gets too dark to see.

Goodness!  It is already Friday!  Wednesday was officially 7 months until our wedding.  I came home to the house after work and Evan had surprised me with take out from Olive Garden for our "official 7 months until we are Mr. & Mrs. Evan Hughes" - It was so sweet.  Now we are at 6 months and 4 weeks!  The time is flying by!  We are getting more and more exciting everyday!  <3  Last weekend my sister and my niece picked out their dresses.  This weekend I'm going with Stephanie to look at bridesmaid dresses.  This is the color we are doing...

I called and booked our hotel room for our wedding night this week as well!  And made sure that we could go on Sunday, after church, to look at the reception hall again.  We have to look at the chairs to make sure we get the correct chair linens. Oh, and Evan is getting out of the Marine Corps in 9 days! :)  We are both so excited to start this new chapter of our lives! <3

St Michael

This is Evan's new tattoo... It's just the outline.  He has to go back to get it shaded in and finished.  It's St. Michael and below it, it says, "Defend us in battle" in Latin.  It's on the left side of his back.  :)

Dress Shopping!!

We went to Maryland this weekend! :)  Evan hung out with my brother-in-law (his soon to be brother-in-law :) ), while the girls went shopping for bridesmaid dresses and a flower girl dress.  Heather found a dress she liked... Mikayla fell in love with her dress!  She was sooo cute!!  Then my mom tried on some Mother of the Bride dresses.  It was a lot of fun.  They all looked gorgeous!

Here is a couple of pictures of Mikayla after she tried on her dress... She was pretend to be a bride spinning around, looking at herself in the mirror.

We are leaving tomorrow to drive to Maryland after I get off work for my little cousin Gabrielle's First Birthday and for bridesmaid dress fittings!! :)  My sister wants to try on her dress before she gets too far along in her pregnancy... And my friend Danielle wants to try on dresses as well!  My little cousin Gabrielle is just too adorable and we really can't wait for her birthday party.  Oh and Evan is getting a weight bench/weight set from my Daddy... So we will be taking his truck up to Maryland.  First road trip in Evan's truck!! :)

The front of the "Will you be my Bridesmaid?" cards I sent to my girls... I sent a different card to my sister... And a different card to my beautiful, sweet niece!

Love Her!!

I love my niece soooo much!!  I could eat her up!! <3  She makes me smile.  I called my sister and my niece was talking in the background.  My sister said that her Aunt Kristina was on the phone... Mikayla said, "Oh, Aunt Kristina!  I love her!!"  She melts my heart.  I figured I would share one of the pictures of her with you...

Evan's Memorial Tattoo

Evan went to Port City Tattoo today and had them draw up a tattoo for him to go along with the dog tags that he already has on his chest.  He got a memorial dog tag for Mamou and a memorial dog tag for Doc Gonzales.  They are two guys that Evan was in the Marine Corp with.  Mamou passed away after he got out of the Marine Corp and Doc Gonzales passed away a year ago in Afghanistan.

Evan also is having them work up another tattoo for his back.  A St. Michael tattoo... He has this appointment on October 18th at 6:00pm... We will put up pictures and details then! :)

Marriage Prep!

Today we had our marriage prep course.  It was a very long day, but it was a good day.  It was very comforting for me and Evan.  Everything that was discussed in the class were topics that me and Evan had discussed in great detail already.  It was reassuring to know that we are prepared for our marriage and life together, not just our wedding day!  Also, we are very excited to have another thing accomplished on our list of things to do for the wedding.  <3  I will be emailing the church on Monday to see if we can meet with them November 18th.

Catholic Wedding

I found this article about a couple of differences between what our wedding ceremony (Catholic Wedding Ceremony) and your average wedding ceremony will be.  I thought it might be interesting to some... :)

We have our marriage prep class on Saturday.  We are really excited for our big day!  <3

Things You Won’t See At A Catholic Wedding
There are few events in life that are as steeped in tradition as a wedding. And the traditions surrounding weddings come to us through our families, our friends, our culture, and our religious traditions. But every religious tradition handles weddings differently, and some of the things that people expect to see and hear are often not part of the Catholic way of celebrating weddings.
For example, in some traditions, at the conclusion of the procession into the Church, the presiding minister may ask, “Who gives this woman to be married?” And the father of the bride will be expected to respond that he, or he and his wife, do. At Catholic weddings, it’s presumed that the bride—and the groom for that matter—give themselves to each other.
If you’ve ever seen a wedding on a television series, you’re probably familiar with the dramatic possibilities that arise when the minister asks, “If anyone knows any reason why these two should not be wed, let him speak now, or forever hold his peace.” Well, we Catholics don’t do that. In many places, notices of up-coming weddings are published, allowing anyone with objections to come forward before we get to the altar.
Another touching moment in most TV weddings is the phrase, “With this ring, I thee wed.” For us Catholics, the moment of the marriage is the exchange of consent, and the speaking of the vows. The ring is a symbol of the union that has already taken place. We bless wedding rings, and they are exchanged with the phrase, “Take this ring as a sign of my love and fidelity, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.”
Another thing we don’t say at Catholic weddings is “I now pronounce you man and wife.” We believe that the couple becomes husband and wife not because the minister declares them to be such, but because they have given their consent and made their vows to each other. The function of the priest or deacon is to preside and witness these vows, not to make the marriage happen.
Through all of the ceremony, the emphasis is on what the bride and groom do, and not on anyone else. This celebration of love and unity mirrors the love of God for his people. Ideally, it inspires all of us to be more loving, more committed people.

Yay!! Our Big Day!!

Church time!

I took off early today so that way me and Evan could take the pups to church.  Our priest was blessing the animals at 3:30 in the soccer field at our church.  We absolutely adore Father Marco!  He is such an amazing priest!!  It was a great time.  The pups got to run around after their blessing and play with kids and other pups.  Here are some pictures of them after their blessings...

Babysitting the Pups

This past weekend and throughout the beginning of the week, we babysat Stephanie and Travis' pups!  They were a blast!  Kosar and Bentley absolutely loved having them at the house.  It was a crazy, hectic, fun, mess!  :)  They played hard... And slept even harder!!

This is the picture of Zoe (left) and Ellie (right) passed out on Bentley and Kosar's beds.

Birthday & Lion King 3D

This past weekend Evan took me out for my birthday.  It was a great evening.  I came home to all new screens at the house, roses on the kitchen table, and a surprise dinner! Evan ended up taking me to Ruth Chris.  It was amazing! <3 My parents got me a daughter charm and an engagement charm for my Chamilia bracelet. My sister and my brother-in-law got me a sister charm for my Chamilia bracelet.  Evan's parents got me a gift card to Applebees and got Bed Bath & Beyond.  And Evan's grandparents got me a gift card to JCPenney's.  It was a great birthday.  :)

This weekend we went and saw the Lion King in 3D!  It was great!  We loved it.

Since Saturday was a raining day, we spent most of the day watching movies and hanging out! It was a great day!! :)

Bentley got his jersey!

Bentley's jersey came in!!  Bentley loves it!  He was so excited to put it on.  Evan took it off him and said he couldn't wear it until game day.  So all the jerseys are in the "man cave" hanging up together now...

Evan plays dress up...

Evan decided to play dress up with his little family this weekend.  The Browns played on Sunday so we all had to wear our jerseys... Evan put me in a t-shirt.  Bentley was really excited when we put Kosar's jersey on him, but then he realized he wasn't getting a shirt put on him he got upset.  He's used to being the one that is dressed up.  But Evan ordered him a jersey as well! :)  He will be super excited next weekend when he gets to be dressed up too!
